Paulo Lobo like many, immigrated to Luxembourg at a young age. Having spent his childhood in his native Portugal, the young Paulo started discovering and documenting the Portuguese community in Luxembourg and more specifically in his home town of Differdange. The term ‘saudade’ describes the longing of the Portuguese for the far away lands which they traditionally travelled as a grand seafarer nation. In this zine, the idea of longing is re-interpreted as the desire of the Portuguese community to maintain a link to their homeland which features so heavily in their souls. While they came to Luxembourg as guest workers they created their own world thereby merging their Portuguese heritage and the Luxembourgish environment.
Paulo Jorge Lobo was born in Baixa da Banheira, Portugal, in 1964. At the age of six his parents emigrated to Luxembourg. Paulo developed a passion for photography at an early age and is self-taught. Edited by Dirk Mevis Design by Georges Boez
