Table manners is an exploration of the social gatherings around finnish dinner tables spiced with a decent portion of dry nordic humour.
Markus Jokela, born in Helsinki in 1952, is a Finnish writer and photographer. He worked at Helsingin Sanomat, Finland’s largest newspaper, as a writer and photo editor from 1982 to 2001. From 2001 to 2019, he was a staff photographer. He is a recipient of Finland’s State Prize for Photographic Art and several World Press Photo awards: 2nd prize in the Daily Life category in both 1993 and 2001, and 3rd prize in Long-Term Projects in 2017. He was named Finland’s Photojournalist of the Year in 2003, 2015, and 2016.Markus Jokela has exhibited widely in Finland and published several books, including Under a Pale Sun (2000), Something Happened (2009), Table Rock: Photographs from Nebraska (2018), and Moments and Landscapes of Minor Importance (2024).
