Table manners is an exploration of the social gatherings around finnish dinner tables spiced with a decent portion of dry nordic humour.

Markus Jokela, born in Helsinki in 1952, is a Finnish writer and photographer. He worked at Helsingin Sanomat, Finland’s largest newspaper, as a writer and photo editor from 1982 to 2001. From 2001 to 2019, he was a staff photographer. He is a recipient of Finland’s State Prize for Photographic Art and several World Press Photo awards: 2nd prize in the Daily Life category in both 1993 and 2001, and 3rd prize in Long-Term Projects in 2017. He was named Finland’s Photojournalist of the Year in 2003, 2015, and 2016. Markus Jokela has exhibited widely in Finland and published several books, including Under a Pale Sun (2000), Something Happened (2009), Table Rock: Photographs from Nebraska (2018), and Moments and Landscapes of Minor Importance (2024).

The photographs by Markus are illustrated by texts of the finnish author Greta Kallio. Enjoy Marcus' perspective on the in-between moments, the sad, funny, and ironic instants that make up the fabric of human interaction.
